A Midwest witch hires a specialist to design a corn maze in her fields for the harvest celebration, as a fundraiser for her niece’s school. She’s tied to the land and he’s just passing through, but long nights working side-by-side in the fields and getting sweaty in the barn have them both wishing they could find their way to a future together. Only time will tell if her harvest bounty might be more than corn this year.

Kris' Review

Ms. Dunne has created a wonderful witty charming story combining love and magic, with some realistic and loveable characters.

Two years ago, Ally Nichols dropped out of college and moved in with her younger sister Susan and her daughter Cindy, after Susan’s husband Brian died tragically. Unbeknownst to anyone, Ally a botany student had become a witch in college. For the past two years, the farm has prospered thanks to her organic farming techniques and her mysterious ways of magic. When Cindy’s school runs into financial difficult and may be closed, Ally finds herself offering one of her early harvest fields to be used as a corn maze.

Matt Cantrell had run ‘Matt’s Marvelous Mazes’ years earlier fresh out of high school. Now he runs a successful real estate business. His quasi-girlfriend Cecelia finagles his services to help Ally get the corn maze up and running.

When it turns out that Matt wants to be a hands-on guy working on every aspect of the corn maze, Ally is a little flustered. Since the corn maze won’t open until after the harvest, she planned on drawing as much power and protection to the delicate hybrid crop as possible. But she’ll have to be careful to hide any obvious evidence of her witchcraft from Matt, which won’t be easy. As soon as they meet, Ally and Matt feel a strong connection and a desire to bare their souls to each other. When Ally starts to fall for Matt, she knows a relationship will never work until she tells him the truth. Even then there is no guarantee that he will understand. After a wild night of passion in the center of the maze after the harvest is complete, Matt is smitten. That is until one night he surprises Ally in the barn and finds her brewing what he believes is a love potion. When she tries to explain he refuses to listen. He believes that his feelings for her were all part of a spell she put over him. He tells her he’ll help run the maze as planned but never wants to talk to her again.

Can Ally convince him that his feelings were genuine? That the brew she is making is only to help the crops prosper and has nothing to do with a love potion. Is it too late for Ally to explain and get Matt to understand that what they feel for each other is love and not ‘magic’?

You’ll have to read to find out. Harvest Magick is well worth the read. It is a quick, charming little story that will make you believe in the magic of love.
