Carol had no notion what enthralled meant until the night she discovered the vampire, Lucian, in her apartment. He took her will and then he gave her pleasure such as she’d never known.

Tala’s Review

Vampires have been asleep for centuries. Now they are awake and hungry, not just for blood and sex, but to retake their place as the dominant species on the planet.

Atlanta, Georgia. Present day. The city is in turmoil. People of all sorts have begun to disappear all over town with no explanation.  Authorities are baffled. The only advice they have is to vary travel patterns after dark.

Ms. Usher has created a unique new world. She has painted a realistic picture of the longing felt not just by Lucien but also by Carol. Both characters drew me in. They share an intense desire and need for each other in a way that is so much more than surface deep. Lucien has become intrigued by Carol because of the discipline she has shown in following the directions given by the authorities for trying to avoid the disappearances that have become so common throughout the city. He shadows her movements until the time is right, and he decides to take her. Lucien wants more than just a concubine. He wants a companion with whom he can share his life. Carol hasn't come to terms yet with her feelings for Lucien. She doesn't want to need him, but she does.

Lucien is the type of Alpha male hero that really draws you in, and Carol is a strong, independent heroine that keeps you wanting more. Neither character realizes how incomplete their lives are until fate throws them together.

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this story. I am anxiously awaiting book 2 to continue their thrilling saga.
