Earth is in the midst of trade negotiations with a planet by the name of Dezra. The earthling fronting those negotiations is Jana, who after a horseback ride gone wrong, has lost her job with the trade confederation, but not before falling in love with an alien from Dezra by the name of Qay. She agrees to marry him and live with him on Dezra, but this matrimonial ceremony is not complete until she goes through a few alien “traditions” to include Qay's best man.
The characters in this story have their own distinct 'voices' and personalities. You have Jana the earthling who is naive when it comes to the traditions of Dezra, but willing to give anything a try with no hesitation if it means the end result will be Qay. Then there’s Qay who is completely in love with Jana and expresses those feelings clearly through his words and gentle actions. Last is Zyn who is possibly the most dominant character I ever read. His words and actions towards Jana are both harsh and aggressive, yet he is able to fulfill a need that Jana didn't know existed until he was 'traditionally forced' upon her.
This was my first read by Amy Redwood and I have to admit that I was expecting a little more. Maybe it was just that this was meant to be a quick story and there wasn't enough time for world building, but it didn't capture me as much as I was hoping it would. This by no means will stop me from checking out the rest of her work since I've seen some great feedback on other stories she's written. It could also be that in this particular story Jana is completely submissive and I prefer heroine's that aren't. Some is fine, but not complete submission and this could just be a reflection on my own personality.
Recommended reading for fans of quickie BDSM menage stories with one very submissive earthling, one very dominant king, and his somewhere in the middle, second in command.
