Mirabelle Levange is dreading the upcoming holidays, as it will mark the first season without her parents. Then, on top of everything, she's involved in a car accident and breaks her leg. Can her life get any worse? Well, yeah. She's a recent law school grad, jerking lattes at Starbucks. But then she meets Kevin Porter, a handsome lawyer who has his own secret sorrows. He's about to become a federal judge and he offers Mirabelle a clerkship. As Mirabelle and Kevin get to know one another, and each other's secret pasts, they learn how important it is not to judge. But will it be enough to sustain their love?
Dodie’s Review
This book was one of the most realistic romance novels I have read in some time, disregarding the large amount of time I've spent reading paranormal romance novels lately. When the main characters meet, Kevin feeds Mirabelle a cheesy pick up line, and then they proceed to be awkward around each other. Mirabelle overanalyzes everything, and is filled with the same self doubt (he's attracted to me/ I'm a dork/ he's attracted to me) that everyone goes through on a first date. They both have jobs. They have difficult office politics to sort through. They have to learn how to forge a relationship together.
Even with all the realistic moments, this is still a wonderful romance novel. We read romance novels to escape and dream. This book does not disappoint. Kevin is undoubtedly Mirabelle's Prince Charming, and swooping in and rescuing her. Their relationship has some ups and downs. They misunderstand each other, which nearly leads to disaster in their relationship. And then, after coming to the brink of a giant misunderstanding, they … well you will have to read the book and find out. I hope you will enjoy the book as much as I did.
