When Karin Lattimer moves across the country and her over-protective brother asks his friend Caleb Hawkes to keep an eye on her, she’s more than annoyed…she’s turned on. The attentive cop is a walking wet dream, but Karin knows he’s only hanging around out of a sense of duty. Acting on her crazy attraction would reveal more than the man’s buff body—it would also reveal her heart.

Caleb is well aware that Karin is all woman. He can’t keep his eyes off her and his hands itch to touch her. But she’s not one-night-stand material, and he firmly believes cops make lousy partners for long-term relationships. Still, thinking clearly isn’t a top priority when Karin and Caleb finally touch. Sparks fly and barriers melt away as easily as their inhibitions, but can she convince him there's more to life than playing it safe?

Kris' Review

Mysti Holiday’s book ‘Blue Light Special’ is a well-written, witty story about a cop and a bartender, thrown together under special circumstances. I found Ms. Holiday’s dedication of the book “to the men in blue…who keep us safe at the risk of their own lives, and who provide fodder for romance. I appreciate you,” to be a sincere, heartfelt reminder of the work police do every day.

As a woman with two older brothers to defend her, I can honestly relate to Karin Lattimer. It’s hard for a big brother to admit when his little sister is all grown up and doesn’t need defending. Todd Lattimer wasn’t ready to admit that. After learning Karin had taken a job in the town where his old friend Caleb Hawkes is a cop, Todd had begged Caleb to ‘take care of my baby sister’.

Karin Lattimer is anything but a woman in need of a babysitter. Sure she grew up in Montana with three older brothers to defend her, but she wasn’t a little girl anymore. She’d moved to L.A. California, with the hopes of modeling or acting. When it hadn’t worked she moved to the small town of Rancho Cordova. She was a bartender at the ‘Roadhouse’ and she loved what she did. Usually her tip jar overflowed when she worked since ‘she dressed and acted like a walking wet dream.’ That was until Caleb started hanging around the bar ‘watching over her.’

Caleb Hawkes had promised Todd that he’d keep Karin away from the jerks that would try and screw with her. Caleb had thought it would be an easy job, until he met Karin. He had pictured Karin to look like ‘Holly Hobbie’ instead she was a ‘goddamn Barbie.’ Once Caleb saw Karin, he wanted to screw her himself.

Karin hates to admit that she has feelings for Caleb. She wants him to have feelings for her, just not from an obligation to her brother. Caleb on the other hand, doesn’t do commitments. He believes that cops shouldn’t get married. He sees the odds of getting injured or killed on the job as being higher than the odds of a lasting relationship with a cop working out.

Will Karin be brave enough to find out if Caleb has sincere feelings for her or is merely playing watchdog? Is Karin the woman that can make Caleb consider the possibility of trying a long-term relationship?

You’ll just have to read and find out. ‘Blue Light Special’ is a great fun ride watching the interactions of Karin and Caleb as they play out. Blue Light Special earns five Tea Cups and a heat rating of 3.

5 Tea Cups!
