I can say unequivocally that this is one of the best books I have read all year. I had not read the first book in this series and I intend to rectify that as soon as possible. From moment one I was absolutely captivated with the world Ms. Ross has created.

The idea is this: Pompeii was destroyed on earth but right before that happened, sophisticated aliens called the Fedorans took the people who lived in Pompeii away and brought them to their homeland where they continue to live their lives exactly as they lived them before their home was destroyed in a place called New Pompeii. The Fedorans have created this story about how Vulcan decided to kill them but Venus saved them and brought them to New Pompeii.

It is a moneymaking endeavor for the Fedorans who participate. They make money selling tickets to the Gladiator shows and justify the keeping of slaves with the idea that they saved them and that all they are doing is continuing to let them live their lives as they did before.

This does not satisfy Elaina who mistrusts anything her late husband was involved in, even if her brother is one of the top investors in New Pompeii. One night with the champion Theos and both their lives are changed.

Theos is strong, smart, and challenging. He is a hot hero and the chemistry between them explodes off the page. I loved every second of this book and Aubrey Ross has become a must-buy for me from now on. Bravo. I was truly, truly blown away by this book.
