Thirty-five-year-old self-made billionaire Trent Mavers needs more excitement in his life. The social scene in New York has left him thoroughly disillusioned. When he meets twenty-five-year-old Swedish beauty Mia Johansson at a charity auction, he believes he’s found the perfect woman. Sexy, alluring and highly intelligent, she is dressed to kill and is everything he desires.

However, Mia is not all she seems. She is hiding her true identity. After a night of unbridled passion in the billionaire’s bed, she soon finds herself in serious trouble when her deception is uncovered. The only person who can save her now is Trent Mavers, the very man she has deceived.

Is he acting out of kindness by spending thousands of dollars to help her, or has the billionaire really just bought her for his bed?

Yadkny's Review

Mia has a dream and working hard for little pay while living in New York is a stepping-stone in achieving it, but the strain is starting to wear on her. She persists by enjoying what most people take for granted in the city surrounding her. Then one day everything changes when her employer leaves on an emergency putting Mia temporarily in charge of the dry cleaning business. A pair of tickets to an art show and social gala has been tossed in the trash and Mia can’t let the opportunity of a lifetime slip through her hands. Now if only she had something to wear.

Trent is tired of the elite scene in New York. The people and the parties no longer hold the same appeal they once did and instead have become rather tiresome. His need for something new and exciting has lead him to the decision of taking a long overdue vacation. Art has been something of a hobby of his to collect, so why not attend the upcoming art show and bid on a few pieces. A night filled with glitz and glamour suddenly narrows to one beautiful woman in a red dress. She fascinates him and suddenly life isn’t so boring anymore with her in existence.

This story is sort of a cross between Cinderella and Pretty Woman only set in a more modern environment. The characters Mia and Trent are both hard working, have both become tired of the status in their lives, and want a change. In searching for that change they find each other and the sparks immediately begin to fly. Mia has a special brand of innocence that really appeals to the protective and dominant side of Trent. Throughout the story, I wasn’t always a fan of Trent’s. At times, he came off a bit too aggressive and I didn’t really feel that the deceit indicated in the story really warranted so much anger from him. Mia is a relatable character in both situation and personality. The dialogue between them had moments of being cringe-worthy and there were a few moments that left me uncomfortable for Mia’s character. Particularly during a couple of the sex scenes, there was a slight humiliation element to them. The story has good pacing until the later half where it seemed to wrap up rather quickly. It’s definitely an attention-grabber from beginning to end with well described characters and surroundings.

This story is the second in part of the Guilty Pleasures series, but can be read as a stand-alone.
